James Cameron was so moved by the plight of the people of the Xingu that he created "A Message from Pandora," a short feature on the battle to stop the Belo Monte Monster Dam due out this Fall as part of the Special Edition DVD of Avatar. The trailer for it was released last week:
And Sigourney Weaver has teamed up with Amazon Watch, International Rivers and our friends at Google Earth Outreach to create this educational video and interactive tour showing the devastating impacts of the dam:
While it's great to be getting all this celebrity attention, what will really make a difference is if the Brazilian government hears from tens of thousands of us all around the world – asking them not to destroy the Amazon rainforest and over 20,000 lives. That’s why we’ve launched this petition in support of Brazil's Movimento Xingu Vivo Para Sempre (Xingu River Forever Alive Movement), to the Brazilian government to cancel the dam project.
Please take action now to Stop the Belo Monte Monster Dam
and Defend the Amazon!
We will be asking James Cameron and Brazilian artists to join the Kayapo, Juruna, Arara and other affected communities to personally deliver this petition to the key Brazilian government officials this Fall. Please help us gather thousands of petitions signatures so we can have an impact on Brazilian Government to defend a real Pandora on Earth...the Brazilian Amazon.
SO... PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO 5 FRIENDS AND
SHARE IT ON FACEBOOK.
Thanks in advance for your support.
